How Noah James Learned ‘Ability To Surrender’ on THE CHOSEN Set
By Movieguide® Contributor
THE CHOSEN’s Noah James calls the upcoming season “rewarding” as an actor.
“It was a really hard season to film,” James, who plays Jesus’ disciple Andrew, said. “Not just the content, but just the circumstances of filming it. It was crazy hot. We’re out in the sun all day, and it gets tough. It starts to wear on you.”
He continued, “It’s more rewarding having gone through the difficult journey because you gave it your all.”
“The ability to surrender was not something that I came into THE CHOSEN with that ability to do,” James EXPLAINED. “So I’m learning when best to let go of things that you can’t control and surrender. That certainly helped me through some of the difficult moments in season four.
The actor said “learning how to grow in that way” was also a part of THE CHOSEN’s characters’ journeys.
“That’s one of the cool things about the show: each character has their own things that they’re struggling with or dealing with, and we’re watching them grow and sometimes take two steps forward, one step back, or maybe four steps back, 10 steps back, and try to find their way back to where they were and into growth,” James said. “I just think that THE CHOSEN does a really good job of that.”
James gave fans a sneak peek at what they might be able to expect from the upcoming episodes in a conversation with Deseret News.
“It became apparent to me that Andrew is going through a lot of growth this season,” James said, explaining that the growth will come from his understanding of the teachings of John the Baptist and Jesus.
James also spoke about Season 4 to the Washington Times.
“I think that the wonderful thing about season four is that as you’re looking for the good things, the light, sometimes the darkness can help frame the good,” he shared. “I do think that’s a sort of ongoing theme with season four.”
Movieguide® previously reported on James’ favorite moments of shooting Season 4:
Noah James plays Andrew on the hit TV series THE CHOSEN, and although his serious character has little room for jokes, James is full of smiles and laughs.
In the video, the actor guards his face with “Noah’s shield of protection” so that “anything that is being sprayed around me won’t get on my face and get all sticky.”
The video then asks James a series of favorites about his character Andrew.
James’ favorite Andrew line is, “Any sort of sound that is un-worded.”
He also shared that one of his favorite aspects of Andrew’s character development is his “wrestling with the anxiety and the attempt of growing up.”
