Olympian Katie Ledecky Sets Yet Another Record

By Movieguide® Contributor

Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky has hit a new milestone that she should be proud of. She is now the most decorated female Olympian in U.S. history.

The 27-year-old athlete from Maryland received another silver medal last week for the 4×200-meter relay and now holds 13 Olympic medals, making her not only the most decorated U.S. female but the most awarded female swimmer in Olympic history.

Following Ledecky are Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres and Natalie Coughlin, other swimmers who currently hold 12 medals each.

Behind Ledecky’s wins comes a heart of humility. She explained how she’s thankful to be a part of the event and looks up to Olympians who have gone before her.

“I try not to think about the history very much,” she said after her 1500-meter win. “So, it’s just an honor to be named among them. And I’m grateful for them inspiring me.”

Movieguide® previously reported on how Ledecky’s faith in God drives her:

After the 2016 Rio games, Ledecky told the National Catholic Register that her faith “is a big part of who I am and how I’ve made it here.”

“I’ve counted on my faith to give me strength through both training and competition — but also in school, with my family and everyday life. So, while my goals in the pool have changed, my faith remains something that’s consistent and something I can always rely on,” she revealed.

After her most recent win, Ledecky posted a photo of her and her teammates to Instagram.

“A special silver?with the relay squad – so proud of this group!!! ??❤️? @claire_weinstein @paigemadden1 @eringemmelll @anna_peplowski @swimone @alexandrathebeast,” she captioned with a photo of the women smiling and holding their medals.

“What a team! so well deserved!! ??” one person commented. “Your leg was so beautiful Katie!! I love watching you swim!!” another user said.

There is still more opportunity ahead of Ledecky in these games. PEOPLE reported, “Ledecky can set another mark this Games on Saturday night — if she wins the 800-meter freestyle, as the distance swimmer is favored to do, she’ll tie former Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina for most gold medals by any female Olympian.”
