Legendary actor Pat Boone explained how the problems that our country faces today come from a lack of respect for the people that we disagree with.
“We’re in a terrible time of strife and anger and fear, I mean, there are protests taking place in streets and college campuses…” Boone told Fox News. “What we’ve got to do is realize that we are all human being and all of us have our own worth…we’ve got to come to that realization. If we disagree politically, biblically, spiritually, in any kind of way we disagree, we’ve got to give the other guy, or woman, credit for being a human being, with perhaps, good reasons for what they believe or stand for and not put each other down and be angry and want to destroy each other.”
As he sounds the alarms about why our country is so divided, Boone still has hope that we can come together again and restore our nation to its godly roots. Last year, he released “Where Did America Go?,” a song calling for this return and encouraging Americans to see their neighbors as their friends rather than enemies.
“I’m desperately worried for our country. We’re so divided. We’re not one nation under God anymore. People are so condemning of each other that if you hold certain beliefs and others disagree, you must be crooked, crazy and wrong,” he explained. “This song is a warning, an alarm that America is in danger of losing its way. We are so angry with each other that we cannot continue in the direction we need to go because we’re too divided.”

His call to find common ground and provide others with an inherent respect is biblically rooted in the story of creation where God explains how everyone is made in His image.
“So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them,” reads Genesis 1:27.
This verse is incredibly important for what Boone is calling for as it reveals that every single person has an element to them that deserves respect. Simply based on this, Christians can provide no excuse for not treating those around them well. Jesus added to this teaching, sharing that apart from serving the Lord, the most important aspect of the Christian life is loving our neighbors well. In doing so, we spread the Gospel and serve as ambassadors for Christ.
Hopefully our country will return to the vision that Boone has for it, and we can find unity among our people again, rather than continuing to live divided.
