Peacock Greenlights THE OFFICE Spinoff

Peacock has ordered production on an untitled show that takes place in the same universe as the wildly popular comedy mockumentary THE OFFICE.
“The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reports,” reads the description of the show released by Peacock.
The show’s ensemble cast is set to be led by Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore, with production scheduled to begin in July.
While the new series takes place in the same universe as THE OFFICE, the show will have to stand on its own accord as it is unlikely that a major reunion of the cast from the original show will take place. However, cameos and guest appearances are certainly in the cards.
“I don’t like to think of anything as a reboot, you know what I mean?” writer Greg Daniels told TheWrap of the spinoff. “Because I feel like we ended that story [THE OFFICE] beautifully. The characters had closure.”
Daniels is set to return to write for the show along with Michael Koman. Daniels adapted the original series for an American audience after the success of a BBC series of the same name and concept starring Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
“It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of THE OFFICE aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” said Lisa Katz, President of scripted content at NBCUniversal Entertainment. “In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”
The upcoming series will be executive produced by Daniels and Koman alongside Gervais, Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas and will air on Peacock.
