How Phil Robertson’s Niece, Nephew ‘Preached’ Gospel on AMERICAN IDOL

Phil Robertson’s niece and nephew recently appeared on AMERICAN IDOL, and the DUCK DYNASTY star encouraged them to continue to use their platform for Christ.

Max and Laela Dasher tried out with back-to-back performances. Max sang “Rock Salt and Nails,” while Laela performed “Angel From Montgomery” with her brother accompanying on the guitar.

Robertson said their auditions “came across very well.”

“The people wanted them to loosen up a little bit because when you’re thrusted on the big screen – we’re on the big screen, and it’s just part of what we’re doing here – but for him [Max], he was going to sing a song,” he explained.

Per Taste of Country, “Max’s voice drew praise from all three IDOL  judges — though Luke Bryan had to give him a quick lesson on stage presence — and they ultimately voted unanimously to send him through to the next round of competition.”

After Laela’s audition, judge Katy Perry said that musical talent is “definitely in the DNA,” and both were sent to the next round of competition.

On his podcast, Robertson reminded his niece and nephew to do “everything we’re doing…to point them to the One that can save them.”

He then related their audition to Romans 2:6-11.

“Your son had the opportunity to project forth who Jesus is,” Robertson continued, speaking to the Dashers’ father, Zach.

“Sometimes you have have individuals, such as your son, who sings this…wonderful song. At his age and for his age group, that’s cutting edge right there,” he added. “You’ve got young people that are singing by song or just by saying it, but the good news is being preached there.”

Movieguide® previously reported on how Robertson uses his life to share the gospel:

DUCK DYNASTY patriarch Phil Robertson thanked God that his biopic, THE BLIND, has brought people to faith in Jesus.

“When that movie came out, THE BLIND, which I was for 28 years, I said if we convert one, I will be happy,” Robertson posted on Thanksgiving. “That’s better than nothing. As it turned out, thousands, so to me, that is a year. When at least, I don’t know how many, but a lot of them have turned their life over to Jesus. I’m happy for them and for [a] Thanksgiving meal…”

“I started the year praying we’d bring just one person to Jesus with THE BLIND. Well, our little movie helped thousands run up on Jesus, and that’s what I’m most thankful for this year. That and getting to cook duck and dressing for my family,” Robertson captioned the video.
