Phil Wickham Encourages Fans To Trust God: ‘He Has Plans For Us’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian musician Phil Wickham shared his thoughts on the parallels between his relationship with his children and God’s relationship with us in a recent Instagram video.

Wickham has been a father for “just over a decade” and said he is still “constantly learning, growing, messing up, and being challenged.”

“You know, as a parent, we have the sometimes fun, sometimes not so fun, job of helping our kids navigate what they think they want,” he explained. “Whenever I answer their requests, my yes or my no come from a place of love, even though they don’t always see it that way. I have their best intentions at heart.”

Wickham said he wanted his children to come to him when they wanted or needed anything, but called it “a blessing” that they always “trust I’m doing what is best for them.”

“It makes me wonder how much more trust we should have as children of the heavenly father who loves us with infinite wisdom,” he continued. “He loves you so much that He wants you to share your wants, desires, fears, worries, and requests with Him. We can come to our heavenly father, confident that He has our best intentions at heart. He has purposes and plans and a future for us.”

“My hope and prayer for you today is that you can embrace the love of Abba, the good father, who cares for you more than you could ever imagine,” Wickham finished.

Movieguide® previously reported on Wickham’s thoughts on the relationship between his faith and his music:

Christian artist Phil Wickham recently shared his thoughts on examining his own beliefs and getting closer to God.

Wickham’s song “Battle Belongs” became an anthem for Christians all over the world during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

“It became such a fight song and a faith-building song for me,” he explained. “Almost immediately, I started … getting all these DMs and messages and emails from people saying, ‘This has given me words to my prayers. I didn’t know what to pray when I was in the hospital bed, by the graveside, or when we lost our job, and we just prayed this song.’ And it was just moving.”

As Wickham looks ahead to the future, the singer is praying that he and his musical peers stay strong in their own faith.

“I just pray that they … lay aside the things that weigh us down and just keep moving forward because they’re the guys that inspire me when I call them and talk to them,” he said. “They’re the guys that I say, ‘Hey, can you pray for me?’ So that’s what I just hope — that it’s the behind-the-scenes stuff people stay faithful to.”

He concluded, “I think all the music, it’s going to come, and people are going to keep pushing each other to make more and more, better and better and more beautiful, and I love all that. But I just want people I can trust to lead me. … I think we all really just want to see God’s Kingdom here on earth through the songs, and everybody’s rooting for each other.”
