Worship artist Phil Wickham has begun to create a new version of “Awesome God” by Michael W. Smith.

Wickham shared a video on his Instagram asking his followers what they thought about the song thus far.

“Hey guys, so last week, I posted a clip of a new version of ‘Awesome God,'” Wickham began and then played a short snippet of the song. “And you guys freaked out a little bit in the comments. We’re like, we gotta finish this. And so we started working on some verses. I think I nailed verse one.”

Verse one reads:

God is great/Give Him all the praise/Hallelujah name above all names/Fire in His eyes/Healing in His veins/Everywhere His glory on display/Take a look at those stars/He can name them all/Before His throne every knee falls/The demons have to run/The angels have to praise.

Wickham hasn’t finished the song yet, but he ended the video with, “I think we make this a thing.”

Wickham just released a new song called “The King Is In The Room.”

“I have been loving singing “The King Is In The Room” with the church! It increases my faith and raises my expectations in the ONE who always does more than I could ask,” Wickham said of his new song. “Hearing the church sing it so loud these past few weeks on tour has been so so sweet to hear. Chains have to break before the King!!”

The lyrics to Wickham’s song read, “We’re gonna see lives changed, souls saved, broken hearts made new/The King is in the room. Lord, we enthrone You upon our praise. The King is in the room. There’s freedom and life anywhere You reign. Jesus, we bow only to You. We’re laying down all of our crowns. The King is in the room.”

In an interview with Air 1 Radio, Wickham talked about the meaning behind the song.

“‘The King Is In The Room’ was written to set the table for the Church as we gather in worship — not just because it carries joy and energy, but because of the truth it declares,” Wickham explained. “This song awakens our hearts to the reality that we are not just a group of people singing in an empty room, but the King — Jesus, the Holy Spirit — is present with us, ready to set people free as we focus on Him.”
