Pink was Told Kids would Ruin Her Career: ‘Having a Family was Really Important to Me’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Mother of two, pop star Pink recently revealed the impact her children had on her career.

In a recent interview, the singer said that she was told, “If you have children right now, your career’s over.”

However, Pink didn’t listen to that advice, explaining that having a family “was just as important to me as ambition.”

“Having a family was really important to me, because my family life was screwed as a kid, and I’m super-affectionate and cuddly and goofy,” she explained. “Just doing music wasn’t enough for me. I was lonely. I was so lonely. It’s a very lonely business.”

Pink shares daughter Willow Sage, 11, and son Jameson, 6, with Carey Hart, her husband of 17 years.

Pink also shared that having children actually improved her work as an artist.

“When I had a child, I think it softened me to the world, the part that didn’t understand me,” she said. “And I think that’s when my career began, really.”

“I did a lot of stuff before that, but really, truly, I think it’s when I started to really understand myself and understand the world and my place in it,” she concluded.

Movieguide® previously reported on the importance of family for Pink:

Singer Pink detailed how she and her 3-year-old son, Jameson, both had Coronavirus and that she prayed more than she ever had in her life.

In an Instagram live video with her friend and author Jen Pastiloff, Pink revealed how Jameson had “the worst of it” and has been “up and down” while in recovery.

“Jameson has been really, really sick,” the Beautiful Trauma singer said. “I’ve kept a journal of his symptoms for the past three weeks and mine as well. He still, three weeks later, has a 100 temperature. It’s been a different rollercoaster for both of us, but Carey and Willow have been perfectly fine.”

She continued,

“There were many nights when I’ve cried and I’ve never prayed more in my life. It’s funny, but at one point, I thought they promised us our kids would be OK. It’s not guaranteed. There is no one that is safe from this.”

Pink said both her and her son have tested negative since having the virus but are still in recovery.

“We’re better than we were. Last week I was on nebulizers [for breathing therapy]. I have asthma really bad, had it for my whole life. It got really, really scary. I’m not gonna lie. In the beginning, all we were hearing was ‘If you’re young, this is 65 and older, thank god our kids are fine.’”

She added that she hoped they “are out of the woods but this thing is a rollercoaster. Just when you think you’re better, something else happens.”

This live stream comes just days after the singer initially told her followers that she and Jameson both had COVID 19.
