Playing King David Fulfilled HOUSE OF DAVID Star’s Biggest Dream

Michael Iskander is so thankful for his role of David is Prime Video’s new series HOUSE OF DAVID.

“With an opportunity like this, and to tell this type of story, it’s so special, and everyone wants it,” he told CBN. “But it’s scary, because there’s so much pressure. You know, being the one person to do this like I, I like to think that there’s plenty of people who could have done it. I’m just the lucky one.”

Iskander began his career on Broadway but wanted something more, a desire he attributes to the biblical series THE CHOSEN.

“I think it goes back to the show THE CHOSEN,” he continued. “I watch the shows, and every single time I watch an episode, I cry. I see the Bible come to life. I see human beings in front of me. I don’t see some big, grand person far away. And I’ve always been inspired by that, and I’ve wanted to be a part of it. So, I thought to myself, ‘Man, if they ever have an audition, you know, I’d love to play King David in a flashback scene.’”

Since receiving the opportunity to play King David, he sees how much God touches people through the series — even on set.

“The way it affected each person and the tears on their face, and in a way almost see the Holy Spirit move in the room, just right here — I mean, there’s nothing like it,” he explained.

Iskander believes that playing the role has also brought him “courage and bravery” in his own life. “The one thing that David always does is he doesn’t run from his fears, he goes right to them,” the actor said. “I think that’s a lesson we all need, is to not run away from our fears, but to face our fears, to stand up against the giant and to say, ‘I am here,’ even though we might be scared. Like, terrified…we still choose to stand against giants.”

Viewers love the show, and HOUSE OF DAVID found its way to the No. 2 spot on the platform last week, second only to REACHER.

“The series begins in Bethlehem, 1000 B.C. It follows David’s journey from a harpist and shepherd boy to a courageous king. It also explores the drama between the House of Saul and the House of Samuel,” Movieguide® summarized.

THE CHOSEN star Jonathan Roumie previously told Iskander that he is “the perfect” person to pay David.

“It also takes someone that’s legitimately connected to God in that way in their faith which makes you the perfect to play David,” he said.
