‘Pray for Us’: Sheryl Lee Ralph Prepares for Hurricane Beryl
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph is asking for prayers as she and many others prepare for Hurricane Beryl’s arrival in Jamaica.
“From the looks of the sky, it looks like Beryl is gonna be here much sooner than the news keeps saying,” the ABBOTT ELEMENTARY actress said in a video posted to X. “So it’s very calm here in Jamaica, the sky is so beautifully clear. And they said that the sea looked like glass today.”
Ralph emphasized to others in Jamaica to “please stay inside,” observe the island’s curfew and “stay off the road.”
“I hope you’ve put oil in your lamp and are taking extra care,” she said. “So to everybody that’s here on the island, we remember that Gilbert was a 3 and Beryl is a 4. Wow. God bless you, goodnight.”
Ralph captioned her post, “Good night from Jamaica ?? Pray for us as you pray for others.”
The actress is currently in Jamaica for her son Etienne’s wedding. Etienne is marrying longtime girlfriend Stephanie Walsh, an ABC News journalist.
“I’m so happy, I’m so inspired, I love it!” Ralph told Entertainment Tonight of the engagement. “The fact that Stephanie just fits and blends so well into our family, you know, that’s all you can ask, that your children are happy in different stages of their life.”
In an Instagram post celebrating Etienne and Stephanie’s engagement, Ralph wrote, “Words can’t express the overflowing joy in my heart as I witness my family growing in love. Seeing my son take this beautiful step of engagement fills my spirit with so much gratitude and excitement. Lord I can’t take it!”
“Love is truly a wonderful blessing, and I couldn’t be happier for the journey that awaits them,” she continued. “Cheers to a future filled with endless love and cherished moments! I am so proud of you two.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Ralph’s relationship with her children:
ABBOTT ELEMENTARY actress and Christ-follower Sheryl Lee Ralph is proud of how she raised her two children.
“My children are part of my best legacy,” she said in a Self article from Mar. 21. “You know, in some places in Africa, they don’t ask you how you are. They ask you, ‘How are your children?”
“They always say, ‘Children keep you young.’ If you’re open to it, they absolutely do,” she said about son Etienne, 31, and daughter Coco, 28.
The proud mom is impressed with the life they’ve made for themselves, their generosity and independent attitudes.
“I’m floored by the way they’re just living their lives to their fullness — and in a way that’s not just for them, but they’re helping others. So it says to me, ‘Wow, they’re paying attention,’” the 67-year-old said.
The star previously told PEOPLE, “I’m so proud of them. They’re not looking at me to help them do this or that. They’re not using nepotism. They’re not coming to me saying, ‘Can you call this? Can you do that?’ They’re doing it themselves, and I just respect them so much for that.”
