Jeremy Renner survived injuries caused by a freak snow plow incident, but sources say they are “worse than anyone knows.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Renner’s accident:

Actor Jeremy Renner was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition after a snow plow accident, Deadline first reported.

The AVENGERS actor, 51, reportedly suffered injuries “after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today.”

“His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care,” one representative said.

Renner is best known as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Renner has been positive on social media, sharing photos and videos from his hospital bed, but one source shared, “It’s much worse than anyone knows. Jeremy is very aware of the fact that he almost died out there.”

The actor sustained serious damage to his right leg, as well as his chest, when the plow ran over him.

“Word is the damage to Jeremy’s chest was so substantial, it had to be reconstructed in surgery,” the source continued.

They revealed it could take as long as two years for Renner to make a full recovery.

“So far, he’s had two surgeries and he will likely require more in the weeks ahead on his leg,” the source explained. “Doctors tend to space out operations to allow time for the body’s natural healing process to kick in, and that’s the case here.”

Despite his serious injuries, Renner continues to put on a brave face. Movieguide® previously reported:

“ICU spa moment to lift my spirits,” he captioned the video. “Thank you mama. Thank you sister. Thank all for you. For your love.”

His selfie had a similar caption, thanking supporters for their “kind words.”
