PRAYER ALERT: California Wildfires Threaten Movieguide® Family
By Movieguide® Staff
A wildfire northwest of Los Angeles broke out Wednesday, and Movieguide® is asking for your prayers.
“The Mountain Fire prompted evacuation orders Wednesday for more than 10,000 people as it threatened 3,500 structures in suburban communities, ranches and agricultural areas around Camarillo,” AP News reported.
“The fire grew from less than half of a square mile (about 1.2 square kilometers) to more than 16 square miles (41 square kilometers) in little more than five hours. Late Wednesday, it was about 22 square miles (57 square kilometers)…Efforts to battle the blaze continued through the night on the ground and with night flying helicopters,” the outlet added.
CNN noted that “powerful winds that fueled fast-moving wildfires across Southern California this week are expected to pick up momentum on Thursday –– worsening conditions.” A Red Flag warning, which describes “extreme and life-threatening fire behavior,” is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.
“We’ve never seen anything like this before. Never thought anything like this would happen to us,” said Ken Levin, who lives in the area. “Thank God for our firefighters that are here to help us when we need it.”
Former Movieguide® staff member, Cooper Dowd, captured images of the fire and rescue efforts on Instagram.
“Continue to pray for those who have lost their homes, those still at risk of losing their homes, and the first responders who continue to fight and sacrifice on our behalf,” Dowd said. “Stay safe out there.”
Please keep everyone affected by the fires in your prayers, including members of the Movieguide® family who are directly impacted.
