‘Prayers’: Derek Hough’s Wife Hospitalized for Brain Bleed

By Movieguide® Contributor

DANCING WITH THE STARS pro Derek Hough revealed that his wife was hospitalized after a recent performance due to a cranial hematoma – bleeding in her brain.

“At the end of last night’s performance in Washington D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital,” Hough shared on Instagram. “She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition.”

“I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her. I ask for prayers and positivity at this time,” his post continued.

A cranial hematoma is a potentially life-threatening occurrence, according to the Mayo Clinic, and most frequently occurs after a traumatic head injury. Bleeding in the brain can lead to confusion, loss of consciousness or death, and immediate medical attention is often needed for those suffering from the injury.

While recovery from a cranial hematoma is possible, it often takes months of work and is not guaranteed, as some people are permanently affected.

Be praying that the doctors will be able to resolve Haley’s injury without any long-term effects on her health.

Hayley and Derek married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony earlier this year after dating since 2015. The couple met while competing against each other on DANCING WITH THE STARS.

While Hayley and Derek have both moved on from competing on the show, Derek returned this season as a judge.

He also choreographed the music video for singer Michael Bublé’s song “Higher.”

Celebrity choreographer Derek Hough recently shared why his Emmy nomination for his dance to Michael Bublè’s “Higher” is so special to him.

“There were so many things about this piece that were special for me as far as Michael, who I love adore, dancing with my beautiful fiancée, who is incredible, and sharing the stage with these incredible dancers, who I’ve known for years and years and years. It was like a big reunion,” Hough explained.

“I’m very, very proud of this piece,” he continued. “There are some pieces, you know, you get nominated, and you love, and you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s cool.” There are some pieces that you’re like, ‘You know what? I love this piece so much.’ And I really love this piece. I watched it back after I got nominated, and I was like, ‘Oh, Ok! Ok, that happened.’ I was proud of it.”
