PRICE IS RIGHT Turns 50: Former Host Bob Barker Shares Game Show Legacy

By Movieguide® Staff

Bob Barker, former host of the beloved daytime TV show THE PRICE IS RIGHT, said that he remembers his job fondly ahead of its 50-year anniversary.

The 97-year-old retired in 2007 after 35 years as the show’s host, but he has not lost his sense of humor.

“I’m often asked what I loved most about my years with ‘Price,’ and the first thing that pops to mind is… the money, of course!” Barker joked in an interview with PEOPLE.

“All kidding aside, there was much to love,” Barker continued. “I had the pleasure of working with a dedicated and talented cast and crew for 35 great years. Particularly close to my heart was the ability our vast popularity gave me to remind our entire audience daily about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.”

Drew Carey replaced Barker as host in 2007 and shared one piece of advice the former host gave: “We were out to lunch, and his advice was, ‘Don’t try to copy me. Just make it your own show.'”

That Carey did, though Barker’s legacy continues to live on both on his show and other daytime game shows.

Barker possesses a warm spot in many people’s hearts for his role.

“We didn’t solve the world’s problems,” Barker once said. “But we hopefully helped you to forget your problems for just a while.”
