By Movieguide® Contributor

Joe Wright’s PRIDE & PREJUDICE will return to theaters beginning April 20 to celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary.

Vanity Fair celebrated the news on Instagram, writing, “This calls for some excellent boiled potatoes. Joe Wright’s ‘PRIDE AND PREJUDICE’ will return to theaters next month to commemorate the film’s 20th anniversary.”

The movie stars Keira Knightly as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy. The cast also includes Rosamund Pike, Donald Sutherland, Judi Dench, Carey Mulligan and Tom Hollander.

The 2005 adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel grossed $122 million at the global box office during its debut.

Part of Movieguide®’s review for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE reads:

PRIDE & PREJUDICE is another wonderful version of Jane Austen’s beloved novel. Keira Knightly stars as Elizabeth, the second eldest of the five Bennet sisters. Elizabeth helps the eldest daughter, Jane, woo the rich Mr. Bingley, who has taken residence in the countryside where the Bennets live. Bingley’s sister, Caroline, clearly disapproves of Jane and the Bennet family, but it is his friend Mr. Darcy who convinces Bingley to break off the relationship. Elizabeth is furious when she hears, from Darcy’s own lips, about his meddling. It has become clear, however, that Darcy has fallen in love with her. Can they overcome their pride and prejudice to find true happiness?

PRIDE & PREJUDICE is a magnificently accomplished entertainment. It is incredibly witty and funny. As the misunderstandings and disagreements mount, it also becomes profoundly and terribly sad. This is a comedy, however, and the ending is wonderfully rewarding, totally uplifting and profound. The movie thoroughly engages the viewer. Best of all, it strongly extols Christian virtues such as love, charity and forgiveness. Like the viewers, Elizabeth learns that Mr. Darcy is a perfect match for her and a gentleman of the highest Christian virtue.

Macfadyen has often been recognized as Darcy and told Vanity Fair that it’s “probably the most flattering thing that happens” to him.

He also revealed how he experienced some “self-imposed pressure” when it came to portraying the role.

“I did feel pressure — maybe it was a self-imposed pressure of, you know: ‘This is a big film, don’t get it wrong,’” he said, later adding, “I sort of ended up [being offered] a lot of things that are similar to ‘PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.’ And I thought: I mustn’t do that, I should try and do something different.”
