What Prime Video’s New Deal With Lionsgate Means for You

Amazon’s Prime Video and Lionsgate have struck up a deal that gives the streamer exclusive streaming rights to the studio’s movies.
“We know that Prime members love great movies, and as a first-stop entertainment destination, we are excited to bring Lionsgate’s terrific slate of entertaining films to Prime Video soon after their theatrical release,” Brad Beale, vice president of worldwide licensing and distribution for Prime Video, said in a statement about the deal.
Beale continued, “The combination of Lionsgate’s films along with the exciting premium entertainment from Amazon MGM Studios and our studios partners ensure that Prime Members will always have something compelling to stream, directly on Prime Video.”
Per the terms of the agreement, Prime Video will have “an exclusive early window following Starz’s exclusive first-run window beginning with Lionsgate’s 2026 theatrical releases available to U.S. customers,” according to Variety.
The outlet added that Prime Video will also obtain the rights to “a package of films from the 2025 slate,” as well as a commitment from Lionsgate for licensing movies and TV.
“We’re delighted to bring to our partners at Amazon early access to go-forward slates of commercially exciting movies driven by world-class filmmakers and cast,” Lionsgate president of worldwide television distribution Jim Packer added. “This agreement unlocks significant incremental value for our slate while affirming the great popularity of Lionsgate movies among an ever-expanding portfolio of buyers.”
It’s no surprise Lionsgate wants to partner with Amazon. The streaming service was recently found to have the largest market share of U.S. customers across streaming services.

“Movies are a critical part of our premium offering, and we’re pleased to extend our agreement with an accelerated window,” Starz Networks prexy Alison Hoffman said. “Lionsgate’s movies perform incredibly well on our service, and we’re thrilled to offer subscribers their expanding slate of films.”
