Priscilla Shirer knows that it is our relationship with God and our willingness to listen to his Word that gives us direction for our lives.
“Our God lives. He’s alive, and He speaks to us,” the Christian actress said in a video for TBN. “We have an actual relationship with Him.”
Shirer explained how in order to be in relationship with God, we need to be in communication with Him.
“What good is any relationship if nobody’s talking to each other, if there’s no communication, if there’s not a connectedness that is ongoing and continual?” she asked.
Shirer continued, “The Holy Spirit of God illumines Scripture. The book is alive, and He causes the old precepts of Scripture to have a nowness and a newness that applies and intersects with our personal experience.”
Shirer explained how when the read the Bible, God will teach us how the biblical stories can apply to our lives. Hebrews 4:12 addresses this truth, saying, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
“The Holy Spirit in us confirms and cooperates and connects with the Word of God and causes it to intersect with our experience,” Shirer continued. “So that verse that has something to do with David and Goliath, all of a sudden, it’s not about David and Goliath. It actually applies to what you’re facing right then in your life. And you understand it as a directive straight from God.”
When God gives us direction through his word, the Holy Spirit will convict us in order to lead us on the right path.
“There’s the conviction, you know, the conviction of the Holy Spirit,” Shirer explained. “That green light of ease and peace that says go, that that yellow light of warning and uneasiness that says hold up a minute till you get clarity, and then that red light, that is a straight up…there’s no peace, there’s confusion, there’s dissension.”
She added, “That’s the Holy Spirit’s way of telling you ‘No, don’t go there, there’s a better yes for you if you’ll just wait and be patient.'”

Shirer uses her platform consistently to encourage others in their faith. Recently she took to Instagram to post Hebrews 4:16, which says, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
“His grace is sufficient for you,” she wrote.
As Shirer said, God is available and willing to lead us and help us through His word. It’s our job to be in communication with Him so that He can do so.
