Pulse Survivors Embrace Faith Over Homosexuality

Luis J. Ruiz and Angel Colon thought their lives were over on June 12, 2016. Both men were severely injured in the Pulse massacre when a gunman opened fire in a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Both men were given a second chance at life and chose to use their renewed sense of hope to embrace faith. Their story is chronicled in MORE THAN A VICTIM: THE ANGEL COLON AND LUIS J. RUIZ STORY.

According to the Movieguide® review: “MORE THAN A VICTIM presents powerful, inspiring Christian testimonies, but relies too heavily on archival footage. The movie has a strong, uplifting Christian worldview, however. Viewers see Angel and Luis repent of their sins and find Jesus. The two men talk about prayer, forgiveness and community. The movie does describe the Pulse Nightclub shooting in detail, with scary soundbites from that night that might disturb younger viewers. MORE THAN A VICTIM also deals with some mature personal issues. So, Movieguide® advises extreme caution.”

Seven years later, Colon and Ruiz are reflecting on the life they have in Christ.

“One word that’s repeating over and over in my head today is GRATEFUL. This is me 7 Years Ago after going through one of the most horrible nights I’ve ever had in my entire Life, Shot Multiple times and suffering a shattered femur. I Thank God for helping me every single day of my recovery. Without getting to know his Love in such a deeper way during this time of my life, I wouldn’t have found peace and forgiveness! As grateful as I am, I’m also very sensitive to those who lost loved ones that night. WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACES!” Colon posted to social media. “Thank you to all first responders, nurses, and Doctors who did their best to help us in anyway!! Thank you to my Family for being with me every step of the way. You guys encouraged me Everyday to keep pushing forward”

Ruiz said: “I will always remember. What the enemy meant to kill ,steal ,and destroy God turned it into a message. We stand with many friends families that are no longer with us and pray for strength today as we all remember.”

He continued, “Would you consider sharing our story with friends ? Not just our stories but Jesus in our stories. as we share Gods redemptive power and his heart for a revival for this community and how 7 years tonight our lives would changed forever.
