‘Magical Moment’: Randy Travis Announces First Single Since 2013 Stroke

By Movieguide® Contributor

Country star Randy Travis is getting ready to release his first single since his 2013 stroke, a song called, “Where That Came From.”

“It’s been a while since my last new recording, but I’m excited to share that this Friday, May 3, I will be releasing my first brand new studio recording in more than a decade, ‘Where That Came From,’” Travis posted on Instagram.

He continued, “You’ll hear much more about the special team of folks who came together to help make this magical moment in my career possible in the coming week. In the meantime, just know that when it comes to me singing songs for you, there’s always more where that came from. Thank you for singing along all these years.”

Travis suffered a massive stroke in 2013, and doctors were not confident he would survive. His wife Mary was forced to make a decision about keeping him on life support.

“Even in his state, his semi-coma state, he squeezed my hand,” Mary told TODAY. “And he laid there, and I just — I saw this tear just fell. And it was, you know, one, two at a time. And I just went back to the doctors and I said, ‘We’re fighting this.’”

Travis has since recovered, even writing a book about the process, titled, “Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith, and Braving the Storms of Life.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Travis’ faith:

Country singer Randy Travis honored his late pal Charlie Daniels with an inspirational video of Daniels praying for him.

“We laughed, cried and prayed together. Not only was he a gift to us, but to the entire world. A few years ago, Charlie had a colt born on my birthday and named him after me,” said Travis. “The memories go on and on, so I’ll leave it at this — Charlie, thank you for everything you’ve done for me, your endless support of us, your unconditional love, and the sweet memories.”

Pop Culture provided more context to the sweet video tribute:

Travis used Instagram to share a video of himself and Daniels backstage at the 2016 CMA Fest in Nashville, Daniels asking Travis if he wanted to get back on stage again. In 2013, Travis suffered a debilitating stroke that affected his ability to talk and sing, but Daniels told his friend he knew he wanted to return to the stage.

After Travis nodded, Daniels asked him if he could pray for him before taking his friend’s hand and leading them in prayer, the clip ending in the middle of Daniels’ message.

In addition to his new single, he has also been thinking about dropping songs from his vault of unreleased music.

Mary told Billboard, “It has already been mixed. Everything’s ready to go by Kyle Lehning, Randy’s producer….a whole other album of Randy Travis music.”
