Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Says ‘The Lord’ Keeps Him Humble
By Movieguide® Contributor
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for 120 yards, landed two touchdowns and completed 13 of 18 passes on Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans.
Following the game, a reporter asked Jackson what helps him stay humble.
“The Lord,” he said. “The Lord. I give Him all His praise, the glory, the honor, you know. ‘Cause without Him, I could have been doing anything, you know, like it’s crazy to know. I’ll be thinking about it, talking to Him throughout the day, like, ‘Man, I appreciate You. I thank You.’
“Because [when] you feel like you’re bigger than the Lord, that’s when all that success, it go [sic] away,” he continued. “You gotta let Him know He’s the reason you have that much success. So, I appreciate that from Him, and I got my family around me, my teammates. Great teammates, coaching staff, we just gotta keep it going and let the Lord know He’s number one.”
Despite a tough first half for the Ravens, Jackson stayed calm and led his team to victory.
“They were having success first half with blitzing us,” Jackson said to the media post-game. “All blitz and zero, they were doing their thing. But we watched a lot of film. We were prepared. We just were making little mistakes on protecting the blitz and getting the ball out on time. But second half, I felt like we were doing what we were supposed to do.”
“We’ve got to finish,” he added. “Still in the playoffs, not in the dance yet. I’m looking forward to next week. I’m not even thinking of the Super Bowl until we handle business.”
Head coach John Harbaugh added of Jackson, “I thought Lamar was gonna play great, but he’s played great all year. Just now, it’s more important than ever. He’s been locked in from Day 1. That’s his term, and we’ve all kind of ran with that. He’s directed this whole thing.”
Jackson is often open about his faith, sharing it with even his youngest fans. When asked what advice he would give kids who are struggling, he pointed them to God.
“Keep God first. Pray to God, you’ve got to be consistent with God,” the quarterback said. “With God, it’s not like making a wish, like you see with them shooting stars. No, you’ve got to be consistent with your prayer. It’s not like you try it once and then if it doesn’t work i’m just going to stop praying, you’ve got to be consistent with God.”

Baltimore Ravens, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson, are one of the top-seeded teams heading into the NFL playoffs.
Jackson, a Heisman Trophy winner, 2019 NFL MVP and this season’s predicted MVP, praised God following his team’s 37-point victory over the Miami Dolphins.
“I just thank God for [giving me the health to play],” he said after the game on Sunday. “I should have started the presser off by thanking God…The last two seasons I wasn’t able to fight with my team. I had to do it from the sidelines and just cheer guys on. But I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
