REACHER Star Alan Ritchson Shares His Acting Bucket List

By Movieguide® Contributor

Would he rather star in a rom-com or a horror movie? Would he rather play Batman or the Joker? Host the Oscars or SNL? REACHER star Alan Ritchson answered these questions and more while sharing his career bucket list.

“Joaquin Phoenix crushed it. There’s no following that,” Ritchson told The Hollywood Reporter when asked if he would rather play Batman or the Joker. “I would love to play Batman. There I said it, okay. I’ll shout it from the rooftops; I want to be Bruce Wayne.”

“Here’s the thing about Batman,” he continued. “You know what his superpower is? Intelligence. Dude is the smartest superhero there is, like, he’s inventive and he’s got all the gadgets and stuff, but he’s super smart. I want to be that guy. And also, to have a cave with hyper-cars, sports cars and also motorcycles.”

Playing the good guy rather than the villain is on par for Ritchson, who shared he could never star in a horror movie because he would be too scared.

“Probably a rom-com. I get nightmares, I don’t know if I could do a horror movie,” he said when asked to pick between the two genres. “If I were to star in a rom-com I think it’d have to be Rachel McAdams. Who’s better at rom-com love stories than Rachel McAdams. THE NOTEBOOK? Come on, I bawled my eyes out.”

If he were to star in a rom-com, Ritchson would probably lean more into the comedy aspect, as he prefers jokes over drama. He showed this when asked if he would rather host SNL or the Oscars.

“Host SNL or the Oscars? SNL. SNL! Did you hear that? I’m ready SNL, this is my dream,” he said.

Another one of his dreams is to star in a musical, even over another of his interests: Christmas movies.

“I’m doing a Christmas movie this year but I would love to do a musical. NEWSIES? Do you know how many times I watched that movie when I was a kid?” he said. “Like, I’ve seen it on Broadway. HAMILTON. I would even do THE BOOK OF MORMON. I would do any musical.”

Finally, things got personal when he was asked if he would rather star in the No. 1 movie or TV show.

“Don’t bite the hand that feeds you but I’d rather be in the number one movie,” Ritchson said. “THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE, there it is. It’s going to be the number-one movie of the year. You heard it here first.”

While his acting career is booming, Ritchson keeps his focus on his faith and family.

“I’m being very intentional about being with my family, with my wife and my kids, without electronic devices, without work, without any ambition for the future,” the actor said in an “InstaChurch” video. “I’m seeing a huge difference in the dynamics of my family and my marriage.”

He previously told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’ve come to learn that it’s not what matters most. I try to keep my eyes fixed on opportunities to serve others.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Ritchson:

REACHER star Alan Ritchson is weighing in on comparisons to Tom Cruise’s adaptation of the character.

“Being compared to the most legendary actor of all time? The last film star? I would never tire of being compared to somebody of his stature,” Ritchson said

“Look, he did his thing. He brought a lot of eyes to this project that wouldn’t be here otherwise. There’s some great IP. The books are great, a lot of people have read them and enjoy the show because of them. But I think a lot of people enjoy the show because he made them aware of it,” he added.
