Ree Drummond Shares Her Family’s Thanksgiving Traditions

Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond recently shared some of her family’s Thanksgiving traditions, from the food that they eat to when they eat it.
Ree and her adult daughters Alex and Paige highlighted Drummond’s 2023 holiday collection during a recent livestream. After a surprise appearance from her sister, Betsy, and a classic Drummond family prank that included a fake snake, the family revealed their Thanksgiving traditions.
“I feel like the one thing about our family is that we’ll literally eat as early as possible,” Paige said. “That’s the one thing that distinguished our family from the rest.”
Drummond further explained that husband Ladd and brother-in-law Tim are the ones who push the Thanksgiving meal earlier every year.
“Well, we eat at 1:00. Which means that Ladd and Tim are in here at 12. The men get hangry…let’s just put it that way,” she laughed.
With a chef like Drummond cooking, it’s no wonder they’re eager to get started. The family’s Thanksgiving meal always includes giblet gravy for the turkey and pecan pie for dessert. Alex and Paige also make homemade hot chocolate to cap off the night.
The family enjoys having time set apart from their busy schedules to spend together. With the last of her sons at college, Drummond has less time with her family than ever.
While Thanksgiving is a big deal for the Drummonds, they go all out for Christmas. Drummond’s CHRISTMAS COOKIE CHALLENGE, which she hosts with Eddie Jackson, started airing on the Food Network earlier this month.
“Five bakers’ holiday treats are judged in three rounds of competition to determine which delectable treat will be the one that allows the baker to take home the prize for best treat,” a description reads. “Each round of the competition focuses on a different theme, examples could be Christmas past and future, 3D art and ornaments. Judged on taste and creativity only one baker can take home the $10,000 prize.”
“Guess what starts on @foodnetwork tonight?!? I’ll give you a hint: It rhymes with Bristmas Bookie Ballenge!! I’ll give you another hint: It stars my sixth favorite fella in the whole world (had to put Ladd, my sons, and my dad on there first! ?) Tune in tonight at 9 eastern/8 central for so many laughs. The bristmas bookies are other level and @chefeddiejackson and I were honored to witness the baking magic! Love this super sweet TV tradition,” she posted on Instagram ahead of the premiere.
Drummond’s excitement for Christmas is certainly contagious, as she even convinced Ben and Erin Napier to star in a Christmas movie that they originally planned to turn down.
Movieguide® previously reported:
Erin and Ben are excited for the movie to premiere, but admitted they weren’t sure about being in a movie when it was first offered.
Fellow TV host Ree Drummond was actually the one who talked the Napiers into doing the movie. She appeared in last year’s CANDY COATED CHRISTMAS.
“[Drummond] said it was one of the most fun things she had ever done,” Erin shared. “She said we had to do it and said we would love it. So, we said, ‘OK, great, we will do it.’”
“It was a lot of fun,” Ben added. “It was very different from the way we normally shoot.”
