Roma Downey Encourages Kindness This Christmas
By Movieguide® Contributor
TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL actress Roma Downey took to Instagram recently to remind her followers to show others kindness this Christmas season.
In her post, she shared a quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald: “To be kind is more important than to be right. Many times what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks, but a special heart that listens.”
“What if we lived with a heart of kindness?” she wrote in the caption. “Let’s not forget those in need this holiday season. ‘Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.’ Proverbs 19:17.”
Downey frequently shares inspirational messages to uplift and encourage her followers.
“A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at. The new year is around the corner friends. Set your intentions, set your goals. Take aim and shoot for the sky. What do you have to lose?” she posted recently.
“I have seen in my own life how fear can sometimes stop us from dreaming big,” Downey continued. “But the greatest mistake we can make in life is being continually afraid that we’ll make a mistake, that we won’t be good enough, that we will fail, so what? What’s not ok is to not even try!”
“Take aim and shoot for your dreams,” she urged.
Throughout her career, Downy has emphasized encouraging others. She’s best known for her show TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, which aired from 1994 to 2003. Since then, she has participated in many other faith-based projects.
“The legacy of my work for the last 25, 30 years that I have been in this space…in a faith and family space, where my interest is in telling stories of hope, stories that uplift, stories that connect,” Downey told CBN’s Faithwire. “The message remains the same. There is a God, He loves us, He wants to be part of our lives.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Downey:
“I felt a call in my life for many years, and I just continue to try to create and generate content that is hopeful, that is uplifting, that’s inspiring in some way…”
She has also shared how the uncertainty of the pandemic taught her to press into her faith.
“I found my experience, particularly in the first year of COVID, where there was so much anxiety and so much uncertainty and so much we didn’t know about it, the time that we had to slow down, it forced a re-looking at our lives, and finding new priorities and real value in spending time with family,” she continued. “It really set me on this journey to explore the unexpected blessings and to see that…even things that come in that are challenging or that seem like obstacles, that if you really have an open heart and are willing to spend a little bit of time each day with God, you’ll start to see that the blessings are everywhere.”
