Roma Downey’s New Faith-Based Project RESURRECTION to Stream on Discovery+

Discovery’s new streaming service, Discovery+, is teaming with THE BIBLE producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett for a new faith-based project, RESURRECTION.

RESURRECTION will follow the biblical events after Jesus’ crucifixion and will premiere on March 27.

“Faithful audiences crave content that speaks to their faith and values, and we can think of no better home for this film than Discovery+. David Zaslav and his team have created an incredible home for family-friendly entertainment,” Downey and Burnett said. “We look forward to sharing RESURRECTION’s ultimate story of hope with the Discovery+ viewers and are grateful to be able to share this epic story with families just in time for the Easter season.”

Discovery+, who has also teamed with Christians Chip and Joanna Gaines, said they are excited to take on the inspiring, faith-based project.

Due to the pandemic and restriction for filming, RESURRECTION will utilize footage from MGM and LightWorkers’ library of biblical material.

Downey, who starred in and produced miniseries THE BIBLE and subsequent feature-length movie SON OF GOD, won the Grace Award for Most Inspiring Performance by an Actress in a TV Program for her performance as Mary. THE BIBLE also gained three Primetime Emmy nominations and acquired over 100 million viewers over its 10-week run on the History channel in 2013.

A.D. THE BIBLE CONTINUES premiered on NBC the following year in 2015.

Both Downey and Burnett are known for their uplifting, family movies full of faith, under MGM’s LightWorkers division.

In 2020, the duo produced Netflix’s reality hit series COUNTRY EVER AFTER.

They were also executive producers on Movieguide® Award-nominated WOODLAWN.
