Rumer Willis Gives Update on Bruce Willis as a Grandpa Amid Dementia Battle

Bruce Willis’ daughter, Rumer Willis, gave a sweet update about her father as he battles dementia.
The actor enjoys spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, who Rumer gave birth to in April 2023 with boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas.
“Lou is just starting to walk a little bit, and she was walking over to him, and it was so sweet,” Rumer shared about a visit from Willis during an interview with TODAY‘s Hoda Kotb. “He’s a girl dad, through and through. I saw him with my sisters, my little sisters. So you’re seeing that all come back again.”
She also opened up about watching her mom, Demi Moore, and dad become grandparents together.
“Honestly, seeing them with her, it just, it almost unlocks all of these childhood memories because being a grandparent, I think, is the best. They have all of the love and joy without any of the responsibilities,” Rumer said about their relationship with Lou. “They get to just spoil her.”
Willis discussed the impact her father has had on his fans.
“People will stop me on the street or at the airport, wherever it is, and are so effusive about how much they love him, how much of an impact he’s had on them, or just that they’re sending love to our family,” Rumer said. “And it really makes me a proud daughter, honestly, to just see how much love he’s getting.”
Willis’ wife, Emma Hemming Willis, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message in honor of Louetta’s first birthday celebration.
“Family and friends gathered to celebrate sweet Louetta’s first birthday. What a blessing she is and to see @rumerwillis blossom into motherhood so effortlessly has truly done something to my heart ?,” Willis captioned the post.
Movieguide previously reported on how Hemming Willis still finds joy with her husband:
Emma Heming Willis is confronting clickbait claims that say her husband, Bruce Willis, has “no more joy,” as he continues to battle Frontotemporal dementia.
“The headline basically says there is no more joy in my husband. Now, I can just tell you, that is far from the truth,” Heming Willis said in an Instagram video. “I need society – and whoever’s writing these stupid headlines – to stop scaring people. Stop scaring people to think that once they get a diagnosis of some kind of neurocognitive disease that that’s it. ‘It’s over. Let’s pack it up. We’re — Nothing else to see here. We’re done.’ No.”
While dealing with her husband’s diagnosis is a difficult experience, she explained that it’s been filled with many good things.
“There is grief and sadness. There’s all of that. But you start a new chapter,” she said. “It’s filled with love, it’s filled with connection, it’s filled with joy, it’s filled with happiness.”
“That’s where we are. So stop with these stupid headlines. These stupid clickbaity things that freak people out. Stop doing that. There’s nothing to see here, okay?” she concluded.
