Russell Wilson ‘Ready to Work’ as Pittsburgh Steelers’ New QB
By Movieguide® Contributor
Quarterback Russell Wilson was released from the Denver Broncos earlier this month but has now landed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“Ready to Work!!!” Wilson captioned a series of Instagram photos, including a picture with Patrick McQueen, who was also traded to the Steelers.
Movieguide® previously reported on the quarterback’s response to leaving the Broncos organization:
Russell Wilson was just released from his position as the Denver Broncos quarterback, and despite the sudden change, he’s trusting God.
“HE always gets the glory! Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. God’s got me. I am excited for what’s next,” he said in a statement before thanking those who were part of his time with the Broncos…
He also thanked his teammates…
Wilson concluded his message with a special thanks to the team pastor.
“Finally, to Ray, Aka Pastor Ray Jackson. Thanks for your countless prayers. Daily. To give God the praise daily and us getting on the floor to thank Jesus for breath in the good times and the bad times,” Wilson wrote.
Even though he only signed a one-year contract, there are talks that a contract extension might be in the works.
Per the Post-Gazette, “Russell Wilson signed a one-year contract with the Steelers for the vet minimum because the Broncos were paying him $39 million in 2024. But Wilson and the Steelers intend to do a longer deal at the end of the season.”
“I want to be a part of the Pittsburgh community for a really long time, and I’m really excited about that,” Wilson told Steelers.com, “Hopefully we can add more championships here.”
Because the Broncos are paying Wilson $39 million even though he’s not on their roster, the Steelers can sign the quarterback at a low cost and allocate resources to other players.
“When you think about it, to be released but then to come here and to know that it’s not going to cost very much,” Wilson said of the move to Pittsburgh. “The best part about it is we get to add more players and do more things, and really, go win. Go win now and that’s our focus.”
Keep an eye on the Steelers this upcoming season as they plan to turn things around for their organization.
