Sadie Robertson Huff Fights Comparison By Finding Confidence in Christ
By Movieguide® Contributor
Former DUCK DYNASTY star Sadie Robertson Huff discussed the toxic trait of comparison and how she fights it on her “WHOA That’s Good” podcast.
“If you’re comparing yourself to someone, you are always going to feel less than because you cannot be them. There’s a reason for that. That you feel less than. Because if you’re in comparison to them, you will be less than they are because you’re not them,” she said.
She acknowledged that she previously struggled with being confident in who she was.
“Now I’m like, wow, I really do that, you know…I really am confident [in] who I am, and I really am cheering on everyone around me for who they are, and I don’t feel that jealousy like I used to feel. I don’t feel that sense of not being enough that I used to feel,” she added.
“God did create us uniquely and originally, and we can be confident in who we are enough to cheer on others and not feel less than,” she said.
“You’re going to be a lesser-than version than them because you’re not them,” Huff continued. “But you’re going to be the best version of you because you are you. And I always preach that. Live original. That’s the message. But now I’m living like that.”
Many followers commented their thoughts on comparison.
“Comparison is the thief of joy,” one user wrote.
“So good,” another follower said.
Huff previously shared her thoughts on comparison: “You’re gonna have similarities [with others]. Yes, you’re gonna have dissimilarities, and that’s actually okay. That doesn’t mean one of you was bad. That doesn’t mean one of you was better. That [means] just you’re both good, and God created you that way for a reason.”
Movieguide® also reported on actress Candace Cameron Bure’s thoughts on comparison:
The Apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:12, “We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.”
“We do it all the time,” she said. “We compare ourselves, and what does Scripture say? Don’t compare yourself amongst yourself. Hey, listen, if Paul was dealing with it in the early church, and we’re still dealing with it now, let’s get [a] practical handle on how not to compare. So one of the ways that we can not compare is to pause and love our life.”
As Christians, we should only boast about the things that God has given each of us. When a fellow brother or sister in Christ finds success, we should be full of joy for them.
