Sadie Robertson Huff loves digging into the word of God, and she just shared a takeaway from her church’s Sunday sermon that touched her.
“Happy Sunday ☀️” she began a recent Instagram post. “Church was so good today! We talked about discipleship and dove into 2 Peter 1:5-8!”
The verse reads, “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.”
Huff explained an important part of the verse that her pastor focused on while speaking to the congregation Sunday.
“In this verse there are 7 different hallmarks of discipleship. Today we focused on the idea of moral excellence!” Huff said. “The pastor mentioned how so often we settle for the moral minimum when we are called to moral excellence! That’s not something I’ve heard preached on much but man, was it powerful and challenging!”
The DUCK DYNASTY star asked her Instagram followers what they learned in church, and many people responded.
“We talked about how marriage should reflect the characteristics of God! ❤️” one user said. Another person added, “The more we go through trials, the more we reflect Jesus. Trials help us become more like Christ. James 1:2-4”
Huff focuses her career on encouraging others to love scripture, a practice she hopes to instill in her daughters at a young age.
“I was like, ‘I need to do this with her more,’” Huff said of reading to Bible to her kids. “We always think, ‘Oh, I wish I learned Scripture more when [I] was younger’…to make it something in the home that’s fun, that [your kids] see you value and use in your life…it’s awesome.”

But being a communicator hasn’t come easily for her, and her confidence to speak only comes from Christ.
“People ask me about me speaking now, but me talking about how I used to be so nervous to speak…I think whenever I switch from speaking about myself and DUCK DYNASTY and the things that our family did to speaking about Christ, a whole new confidence came on,” she said in a clip from her “Whoa That’s Good” podcast.
She explained that when she took the focus off herself and on to Jesus, she was able to speak more boldly.
“It wasn’t like I was having to talk about me…I was talking about Christ, the pages here, the stories here, and like a new confidence began to arise.”
