Savannah Guthrie And Hoda Kotb Were ‘Ready’ To Welcome Al Roker Back To TODAY

By Movieguide® Contributor

After some health battles, Al Roker officially returned to the TODAY show!

The meteorologist has been missing from the morning show for almost two months now after blood clots in his legs and lungs sent him to the hospital.

Ahead of his return, co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb talked about how excited they are to see him at work again.

“Al is the lifeblood of this show, he’s the heartbeat,” Guthrie shared. “I mean, it just doesn’t work without Al. We love him so much, we miss him so much.”

She continued, “He went through this period that was difficult and he did it in his trademark way where he’s always smiling, always upbeat, and he is roaring to come back. He is ready.”

Kotb was just as enthusiastic, gushing about how happy she is to have Roker back on TODAY.

“Al went through the wringer and Al never complains about anything,” Kotb said. “So, to understand that he came back from a very difficult place, is on his feet, is strong again and is gonna be sitting next to us on Friday.”

“We’ve seen Al go through everything. He’s never out. He never takes time,” she went on. “The fact that he took time meant that he needed it and now his moment is here. We’re ready. The crowd’s ready.”

Roker will be back in the studio on January 6 for the first time in two months after being hospitalized for blood clots in his legs and lungs.

“We have some great news to share this morning: Al is coming back to the show,” co-host Savannah Guthrie announced on the morning show.

“Everyone’s like, ‘When when?’ Well, we have our date,” Hoda Kotb jumped in. “He’ll be here Friday. He’ll be right here in Studio 1A . This is his place. He’ll be in his seat, right where he belongs. I cannot wait for that.”

Guthrie shared that the show is “not the same without Al…our sunshine is coming back Friday morning.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Roker’s health struggles and his recovery:

Al Roker made his first appearance on the TODAY show after being hospitalized for blood clots in November.

Roker made a virtual appearance on the show, video-calling in from his kitchen. The meteorologist said he’s recovering and getting stronger each day, and expressed his “profound sense of gratitude” for all the messages of support and prayers he has received from family, friends, and fans.

“It has been a tough slog, I’m not going to lie, it has been the hardest one yet and you know I have had my share of surgeries,” he shared. “But I feel good. I feel strong. Every day is a little better than the last, and I made dinner last night.”

He continued, “I just feel like there’s gonna be a little bit of a slog. But there are people who have to deal with a lot more with a lot fewer resources. I’m very fortunate and very blessed to have the resources.”
