Savannah Guthrie Took Break from TODAY Show to Spend Time with Family

By Movieguide® Contributor

Savannah Guthrie took a one-day break from the TODAY show earlier this week to spend time with her family and connect with her son.

The broadcaster was absent from Monday’s show, and co-host Hoda Kotb told viewers that Guthrie was “taking time off today.” Sheinelle Jones filled in for her, hosting with Kotb.

While Guthrie has not given any specifics to her absence, she spent the weekend with her family and continued bonding with them on Monday. She posted a picture at the Knicks vs. 76ers playoff game on Saturday.

“Best lives lived – thank you @nba!!! go @sixers!” she posted to Instagram, rooting for her husband’s Philadelphia team.

Guthrie was back to the show on Tuesday.

Guthrie isn’t the only person from the TODAY show who has put their family before the show. Kotb revealed earlier this month that she has made time between tapings of the show to see her daughter, Haley.

“For all the moms who forget things, I’m among them,” Kotb said, per PEOPLE. “So Haley yesterday said, ‘Are you coming to my spring concert?’ I was like, ‘When is it?’ She goes, ‘It’s tomorrow?’ And I said, ‘Mamma’s gonna come in hot. You look at that door, I’m going to be there okay? 8:45 I’m going to be there.’”

Kotb also missed the second half of the day last March, skipping her segment with Jenna Bush Hager to be with a grieving member of the crew who had just lost their mother.

“A good friend of ours, who we both love dearly Laura – who does our hair – her mom passed,” Kotb said, explaining her absence. “And Laura’s one of the good eggs, she’s kind of mothering to everybody.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Guthrie:

Savannah Guthrie recently shared why she felt called to write her most recent book, “Mostly What God Does.”

“My faith is really important to me,” she said while appearing on THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT. “It’s something that really thrills me and excites me, and I’m passionate about it.”

When asked why she decided to write a book about her faith, Guthrie explained, “I felt like I had something good to say about God, and I just wanted to say it.”

“So many of us, we ask ourselves, ‘Am I a good person? Have I made bad decisions? Is God the scolding father figure?’ The God that I know, that I think exists, is the one that loves us in spite of all that,” she continued.
