Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Leonard Williams was traded from the New York Giants to the Seattle Seahawks in the middle of the 2023 season.

“It’s been an honor to be apart of the Giants organization and everything it stands for, this place will always have a special place in my heart,” he posted at the time. “Thank you to all the coaches, staff, teammates and fans that have supported me through my career here. NY it’s been real. Now it’s time to continue my career back in the west coast. Seattle here we come! GO HAWKS!!!”

But throughout the trade, Williams kept a positive attitude and never let his faith waver because he saw it as an opportunity to trust God more.

“It’s like when you always see even the hardships in your life as God’s will — not just the highlights of your life — it kind of brings you peace,” Williams said on an episode of the “Sports Spectrum Podcast.” “So it’s like these times when I have to get traded from, you know, a New York team all the way to the west coast of Seattle in the middle of the season, in those moments I could, you know, easily break down and things like that.”

“But when I see it as, like, God’s will, it kind of brings peace to your life, and [I can] be like, ‘Hey, this is what God has intended for me.’ Maybe the, you know, there’s going to be great things for me to come in Seattle, and you know, so far, it has been great,” he added.

Williams proved a pivotal leader on his team and spoke out at the beginning of the season after the Seahawks lost two straight games.

“Today there was too many guys holding their heads down, a little bit of bickering and stuff like that happening on the sideline,” Williams admitted. “I feel like we need to remember to stay close, stay family, have each other’s back, and remember that it’s a four-quarter game.”

“A lot of times in the NFL, it comes down to the last two minutes, which happened today,” he added. “I’m tired of seeing the guys lose confidence throughout the game. We just need to keep our heads up high and remember it’s going to all come down to the end.”
