Serena Williams is expecting Baby No. 2 and no one is more excited than her daughter!
The tennis star shared a sweet video of herself and husband Alexis Ohanian telling Olympia, 5, the news.
“Remember how you’ve been praying for a little sister or brother?” Williams said to her daughter. “We went to the doctor, and it turns out I’m not getting fat but I have a baby in my belly.”
“Are you kidding me?” Olympia said, then hugged both her parents. “I’m so excited!”
The 5-year-old then jumped off the couch and started running around the house cheering.
“We knew you would be excited,” Ohanian said before reminding her she needed to keep it a secret for a few days. “You got a lot of work to do. A lot of work to be a big sister.”
Williams and Ohanian welcomed Olympia in 2017. It was a difficult pregnancy, and Williams even underwent an emergency cesarean-section after the baby’s heart rate dropped during labor. She also suffered a pulmonary embolism after giving birth.
Despite these struggles, the tennis star was adamant she wanted a second child.
This desire to focus on family meant retiring from professional tennis — something Williams discussed in an essay for Vogue.
“There comes a time in life when we have to decide to move in a different direction,” Williams wrote. “That time is always hard when you love something so much. My goodness do I enjoy tennis. But now, the countdown has begun. I have to focus on being a mom, my spiritual goals and finally discovering a different, but just as exciting Serena.”
