Shawn Johnson East Open to Adoption for Baby No. 4

Former Olympian Shawn Johnson East revealed that she is open to growing her family through adoption in the future.
“I have not taken more kids off the table. I have just said to Andrew that I feel like my body is done with pregnancy,” Johnson East said during an Instagram Q&A. “I’ve been so blessed and lucky, but three full-term pregnancies, three c-sections, three BIG babies has taken its toll on my body specifically, and I want to be as healthy and active for my kids as possible.”
“So I now put adoption on the table,” she explained.
Johnson East and her husband Andrew share two kids: daughter Drew Hazel, 4, and son Jett James, 2. They are currently expecting their third.
Though Johnson East is a former gold medal Olympian, the couple plans on supporting their children’s passions rather than forcing them down a certain path.
Earlier this month, Johnson East revealed that two-year-old Jett is already 48 pounds and built like a tank.
“I’m serious. He’s just very dense and tall, but yes, he’s 48 lbs. And he wears a size 12 shoe. I’m not kidding,” she said. “But just because a kid is built a certain way does not mean that they’re destined to do a specific thing.
“I don’t know what Jett is going to do,” Johnson East continued. “But just because he’s built like a linebacker means nothing. He might be a pianist, scientist, mathematician, or whatever. It’s just our job to help him find what he loves, so who knows? He might just be the biggest jock you’ve ever seen.”
One thing that Johnson East and her husband do emphasize for their kids, however, is the importance of faith. Johnson East’s assurance in the Lord was something that kept her rooted throughout her gymnastics career.

Shawn Johnson, a renowned Olympic gold medalist, spoke with “I am Second” about the obstacles and trials that came with the discipline of gymnastics.
Johnson revealed that at the 2008 Olympics, she felt the pressure of the world on her shoulders. Everyone expected her to be the next all-around Olympic gold medalist for gymnastics. However, Johnson came home with only one gold and was a runner-up to her teammate Nastia Lukin.
Johnson said that she returned home with intense feelings of failure.
“I had given 200% that day in competition and laid it down on the floor, but I felt like I had failed the world. I felt like since the world saw me as nothing else, then if I failed at being a gymnast I failed at being a human being,” she said.
