Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders praised God for the opportunity to play in the NFL after finally hearing his name called in the fifth round of the NFL draft.

Sanders, drafted by the Cleveland Browns, was the 144th overall pick.

According to the NFL, the Browns had six opportunities to pick up Sanders but waited until the fifth round.

After he was selected, Sanders posted on his X, “Thank you GOD.”

“Nothing really affected me the last couple of days,” Sanders told the media after he was drafted on Saturday. “I’m favored, I’m blessed. Besides that, it’s not really anything that changed, the love of the game, is still the love of the game. When you get on the field, there wasn’t too much negativity being said. I know I gotta clean up some things in my game for me to be at my best, but that’s what I take each offseason one at a time and fix it.

“The main thing, I’m just proving, coach [Kevin] Stefanski and [general manager Andrew] Berry that they are right. That’s it. They’re right about picking me. I’m a good decision. I’m a good draft pick for them, to be able to come in there and do what I need to do,” the athlete added.

Sanders also posted on his Instagram, celebrating the opportunity to play at the next level.

“Thank you @clevelandbrowns for an OPPORTUNITY !!!!!!! THANK YOU GOD 🙏,” he wrote.

Sanders’ father, Deion Sanders, also shared on his social media, “We trust GOD and we don’t know any other way.” That post came after Shedeur wasn’t drafted in the first four rounds.

When his son was drafted, Deion took to X and reminded all of his followers to focus on the present.

“Everybody’s worried about what happened yesterday & fear the possibilities of what will happen tomorrow when we should be focused on NOW! What we do with our NOW is what matters the most. Let’s make the most of our NOW,” the former NFL player wrote.

General Manager Andrew Berry also spoke to the media about their fifth-round pick.

“The time that we spent with Shedeur and what he’s done throughout his college career is impressive,” Berry explained to the NFL. “He’s an impressive young man. He’s a really good quarterback. Sometimes fit comes into play.”

“He’s highly accurate,” Berry added. “Can play well from the pocket. Very productive college career. It wasn’t necessarily the plan going into the weekend to draft two QBs. We believe in the best player available. We didn’t expect him to be available in the fifth.”

While not a first round pick, Sanders still gave God the glory. Now, he will strive to be the best quarterback on the Browns roster so he can secure the starting spot.
