Sight & Sound to Launch Story of Daniel, Largest Production Yet
By Movieguide® Contributor
In March 2024, Sight & Sound Theatres will present “Daniel,” “one of its largest productions ever.”
“The wrap-around stage is 300 feet wide — the size of a football field,” Christian Headlines reported.
“We have one big wrap-around city that actually moves and transforms into other parts of the city throughout the show,” said Glen Brodersen, senior technical director for Sight & Sound.
Movieguide® reported last May:
DANIEL will invite audiences into one of the most profound stories from the Old Testament, sharing a message of hope and perseverance. The show will center around Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as they face all the trials found in the book of Daniel including royal pressures, the fiery furnace, and the lion’s den.
Sight & Sound is known for its huge productions that feature live animals, real fire, and larger-than-life displays. Yet this is the first time the theater company will attempt a production of this magnitude.
Sight & Sound announced last April that “Daniel” has taken four years to produce.
Christian Headlines reported that the set will include:
— 16 separate LED screens. “Almost every set piece has an LED screen either incorporated into it or as a primary LED screen surface,” Brodersen said.
— two turntable style side-stage sets at “nearly 30 feet in diameter that work to reveal the interior and exterior of all of Babylon.”
— about 830 costumes and nearly 3,500 individual wardrobe pieces. All total, Daniel will include 13,000 yards of fabric, which is “enough to wrap around the theater almost 50 times.”
— pyrotechnics.
— bearded dragons and Maine coon cats.
The synopsis for the show reads: “Taken from his people, Daniel is exiled far from home in the powerful kingdom of Babylon. Now this faithful servant must navigate his new life inside a palace filled with golden statues and shifting empires. As royal pressures mount, Daniel is faced with a dangerous choice. Will his trust in the one true God remain steadfast through every test of faith?”
“Daniel” will be available from Mar. 14-Dec 31, 2024, only in Lancaster, PA.
