This Simple Rule Keeps Candace Cameron Bure’s Marriage Happy and Healthy

When you’ve been married for 28 years like Candace Cameron Bure and former NHL Hockey player Valeri Bure have, you’ll naturally get asked to spill secrets to a happy union, and the actress is more than happy to divulge.

In one question-and-answer post on her social media, a fan asked the actress, “How do you maintain your marriage with so much travel? How do you both stay covenant?”

“We have a 2 week rule-Meaning, we don’t go longer than that without seeing each other.” Bure responded. “That’s why my husband comes up to visit while I’m filming a movie and if he’s traveling a lot I’ll join him on trips. We love being together and make it a point to stay connected.”

“FaceTime and text every day too,” the FULLER HOUSE star added.

While others might compare their marriage to the Bures, seeing them as the picture-perfect couple, Candace confessed that she’s struggled with comparing her marriage to others.

“I used to also look at other couples from afar, especially pastoral couples. You don’t know what’s going on in their life” she said on the “Candace Cameron Bure Podcast.” “But you watch them from afar. They’re on stage. You watch them in ministry and everything looks amazing. But you’re just not in their shoes. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.”

When Bure celebrated her 25th anniversary three years ago, she further shared about the “ups and downs” and the “secret sauce” of their marriage.

Although Bure confessed that their marriage is not perfect, she trusts that God has deepened their relationship with one another over the years.

“I’m often asked for marriage advice. What’s the secret? Lord knows I will never write a book about it because we are still learning every year, every day,” Bure said. “Grace. Grace. Grace. Communication (which is so important but difficult when one partner isn’t willing.) Sex. Laughter. Patience. Lots of patience. Love (a verb. which must be put into action, it’s not just a feeling).”

She added: “No marriage is picture perfect. Not one. And certainly not ours. But through thick and thin, ups and downs, God has blessed us tremendously with guidance and perseverance. I believe God is the secret sauce. I have more love for this man today than the day we married each other… And I know he does for me. Praise the Lord.”

Recently the Bures celebrated their 28th anniversary with a “how it started and how it’s going” post with a photo carousel of past and present pictures of the couple.
