Singer Carnie Wilson Makes ‘Faith’ and ‘Family’ Her Priorities

Singer Carnie Wilson is opening up about how her faith and connection to family have grounded her.
“I came from a dysfunctional family in the rock and roll world, and there was so much that was so crazy and erratic,” she told Fox News. “My dad did the best he could and gave us this beautiful, beautiful legacy. But my mom was so young when she had me and my sister. And so, music is the one steady common denominator, nucleus of our lives.”
Wilson is the daughter of Beach Boys star Brian Wilson, and music definitely runs in the family. She went on to be a member of the pop group Wilson Phillips, along with her sister Wendy and Chynna Phillips, the daughter of Mamas & The Papas stars Michelle and John Phillips.
Wilson has struggled with alcoholism in the past but points to her faith and commitment to family as the reasons she stays sober.
“The faith in my life, my higher power — I’m still sober all these years and it’s wonderful,” she explained. “The priorities are family and time goes by so fast. So you just have to make the best of every single day and stay positive and keep your family and your friends close.”
Wilson continues that legacy of music with her daughter, Lola, who often performs with her mother during Wilson Phillips shows.
“Lola fits right in,” she told The Messenger. “When Chynna [Phillips] isn’t singing with us on stage, Lola comes in her place, and she sounds beautiful. Hopefully, Lola will come on those dates with my sister Wendy…There’s three different incarnations and it’s always a little bit different, but it’s always a family affair, and we’re grateful for every single show that we do.”
The mother-daughter duo recently appeared on the new game show WE ARE FAMILY, where they showed off their singing skills.
“It’s such a blessing,” Wilson said of getting to see her daughter sing on television. “I don’t even know how to describe it, to be proud of her like that. It’s everything…she was born to sing.”
