Singer Ciara Related to Baseball Pro Derek Jeter: ‘That’s Crazy’

Singer and songwriter Ciara just found out that she and baseball pro Derek Jeter are distant cousins.
“Ciara has a connection to sports that doesn’t have anything to do with her being married to Denver Bronco quarterback Russell Wilson,” CNN reported.
The singer shared a clip from PBS’ FINDING YOUR ROOTS on her Instagram Tuesday.
“What in the world!” Ciara shouted when she heard the news. “That’s crazy.”
“The moment I learned @DerekJeter was my cousin! Crazy! Thank you @drhenrylouisgates for such an incredible experience! This was a dream come true to learn about my family genealogy!” the singer said.
10 News explained that FINDING YOUR ROOTS host, Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., had previously hosted Jeter on the show. He and Ciara both have an identical strand of DNA on their fourteenth chromosome. In Jeter’s case, he inherited the strand from his mother.
In response to the news, Ciara’s husband, Russell Wilson, said, “Always knew it! ?”

Over 300 incarcerated men joined in worship and prayer when NFL quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife Ciara visited a maximum security prison last week.
Working with The God Behind Bars ministry, Russell shared the Gospel and prayed and Ciara sang at the Everglades Correctional Institution in Miami, Florida.
“After [Ciara] sang ‘Way Maker,’ man came to the front and wept, giving their lives to Jesus. Many of these men are serving life sentences in prison, but now they will be spending LIFE with Jesus. It is hard to put words into what happened but it was a night of UNITY, PRAISE, and SALVATION! We will never be the same! God is bringing revival to prisons! Jesus is doing a NEW THING,” the post concluded.
