Actresses Melissa Joan Hart and Soleil Moon Frye want to spread the word about vaccination against meningitis B in their new documentary I NEVER THOUGHT TO ASK: A MOM’S QUEST FOR ANSWERS.

“[A]s a mom, I really thought that my kids had been vaccinated for meningitis B. And it turns out that meningitis B is completely different and it really affects 16 to 23 year olds … one of the groups that are affected most,” Frye told the TODAY SHOW.

Meningitis B is a rare disease that infects the brain and spinal cord caused by meningococcal. According to the CDC,” Even when it is treated, meningococcal disease kills 10 to 15 infected people out of 100.”

Both actresses have teenage children and so the threat of meningitis b was naturally a concern for them, and inspired them to make this documentary.

“We, as friends, we talk a lot about all the things that, you know, we’re worried about with our children and things we’re experiencing with our children as they’re becoming teenagers,” Hart said. “She [Frye] went on this journey of telling the story through the movie and I got to be a part of it as she explained it to me and she told me about her journey.”

Hart and Frye met as child stars. Frye was also on SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH with Hart for three years.

“One of the most beautiful parts is just how authentic our friendship has always been. We can talk about anything, I mean, through the ups and downs of life. I just feel like we’ve constantly been there to support,” Frye said.

In 2021, the PUNKY BREWSTER star made another documentary KID 90 giving a personal glimpse into the life of child stars of the ‘90’s as previously reported by Movieguide®️:

“The rejection that you deal with as a kid, I thought it was pretty blunt growing up, like, the reasons for why you didn’t get [the role]. They’re like, ‘Eh, they just didn’t like your look.’ ‘Oh, okay. Yeah, I’ll go process that,’”[Mark-Paul] Gosselaar said in an exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming Hulu documentary KID 90, via People.

In the KID 90 preview, director Soleil Moon Frye also mentions how the industry forces children to grow up too quickly.

“It was intense when I was young, but as a teenager, it was a whole other level of crazy because I developed so quickly and men treated me more like a woman and not a 13-year-old,” Frye said.

Hart has appeared in GOD’S NOT DEAD 2 and has shared about her spiritual journey as reported by Movieguide®️:

Hart was raised Catholic and, after marrying her Baptist husband Mark Wilkerson, the couple decided to become Presbyterians. Now, she lives in Nashville, where her children attend a Christian school.

“I’m a Christian, I believe that Jesus is my savior,” she declared in an interview. “I believe in God and I believe in Jesus as His son.”

Hart admitted that she sometimes struggles with doubt in her faith, but “then I close my eyes and tap into the Holy Spirit and let Him speak to me. And you feel that warmth and you feel that change.”
