SOUND OF FREEDOM Continues to Defy Box Office Expectations
By Movieguide® Contributor
Angel Studios’ SOUND OF FREEDOM gained more views in its third weekend than its first as the true story continues to dominate the box office.
“Angel Studios is projecting nearly $125 million total cumulative box office revenue through Sunday, with a strong $20,140,647 million box office draw in the third weekend of the film’s domestic release. This represents a 2% increase over the first weekend,” Angel Studios announced in a press release.
SOUND OF FREEDOM tells the story of Tim Ballard, a man who made it his life’s mission to track down child traffickers. The movie stars Jim Caviezel, a two-time Movieguide® Grace Award winner.
“SOUND of FREEDOM is continuing its unbelievable ride,” Brandon Purdie, Head of Theatrical Distribution at Angel Studios, said. “Word continues to spread, and crowds are continuing to show up, which is how this film ended up doing more business in its third weekend than its first. As we begin to look toward the international box office, Angel Studios intends to continue to push here at home. We want every American to see this landmark film.”
Newsweek’s Shannon Power called the movie “the surprise hit of the summer,” and Asher Notheis of the Washington Examiner said, “Sound of Freedom has continued its success at the box office in its third weekend of release despite steep competition from two major films released on Friday.”
Movieguide® previously reported on how the true-life thriller made history:
The movie has grossed more than $100 million in the box office in less than three weeks.
The head of theatrical distribution for Angel Studios, Brandon Purdie, said in a press release, ‘There have only been 10 wide-release movies in box office history that have had a second-weekend increase greater than 35% over their opening weekend. All of them achieved this milestone during Christmas. Angel Studios is the only studio to accomplish this feat during the summer blockbuster season with ‘Sound of Freedom.’’
