SOUND OF FREEDOM to Hit International Market

By Movieguide® Contributor

Angel Studios has announced that SOUND OF FREEDOM will soon hit theaters internationally, expanding to a total of 23 countries.

“Since SOUND OF FREEDOM launched in the U.S., demand has been building around the world in dozens of regions and languages,” Jared Geesey, Angel Studios’ vice president of global distribution, said. “Child trafficking is a global issue, and we hope to build on the incredible momentum here in the States and share the film’s powerful message worldwide.”

The incredible success that the movie has found in the States has allowed it to expand into the global market.

SOUND OF FREEDOM opens in South Africa on Aug. 18, followed by Australia and New Zealand on Aug. 24. On Aug. 31, it expands to Latin America, showing in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Belize, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela. On Sept. 1, it reaches the United Kingdom and Ireland and will play in Spain starting Oct. 11.

Angel Studios will distribute the movie directly in Latin America, the U.K. and Ireland and will partner with local distributors for other markets.

Opening in theaters on July 4, SOUND OF FREEDOM has since grossed over $130 million at the box office, even outpacing Tom Cruise’s MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE. The movie closed at No. 3 this weekend, behind BARBIE and OPPENHEIMER.

The movie tells the incredible true story of Tim Ballard, who quit his job at the Department of Homeland Security to rescue children from sex trafficking. Ballard went on the found Operation Underground Railroad, an anti-trafficking organization.

Movieguide® previously reported on the success of SOUND OF FREEDOM:

Since the movie’s debut July 4, SOUND OF FREEDOM has made history.

The movie has grossed more than $100 million in the box office in less than three weeks.

The head of theatrical distribution for Angel Studios, Brandon Purdie, said in a press release, “There have only been 10 wide-release movies in box office history that have had a second-weekend increase greater than 35% over their opening weekend. All of them achieved this milestone during Christmas. Angel Studios is the only studio to accomplish this feat during the summer blockbuster season with ‘Sound of Freedom.’”

Jared Geesey, the senior vice president of global distribution at Angel Studios added, “While the entire summer movie box office lineup is underperforming, our small independent film continues to grow week over week. Driven by millions of fans and supporters, ‘Sound of Freedom’ has become a national — and soon international — movement for change.”
