SPIDER-MAN 4 Updates: Zendaya’s Return, Potential Director and Filming Start Date
By Movieguide® Contributor
It’s been over a year since the fourth SPIDER-MAN movie was confirmed, and now it looks like it’s officially in the works.
“According to The InSneider, the MCU’s SPIDER-MAN 4 is eyeing a September-October filming start. The upcoming MCU movie is said to still be looking for a director, with Fast & Furious franchise director Justin Lin among the names in the mix to helm the project. Zendaya is also rumored to return as MJ for SPIDER-MAN 4. At the time of writing, there has been no confirmation from Marvel Studios or Sony about the contents of the report,” Screen Rant reported.
Movieguide® reported on Feb. 16 last year:
Despite some speculation from fans on whether or not Tom Holland would reprise his role as Spider-Man after SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, Marvel President Kevin Feige recently confirmed a fourth Holland Spider-Man movie.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige said that Marvel is already working on the script for an upcoming SPIDER-MAN movie starring Holland.
“All I will say is that we have the story,” Feige said. “We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.”
Possible director Justin Lin directed FAST AND FURIOUS movies 3, 4, 5, 6 and STAR TREK BEYOND. This will be the first time he takes on a superhero movie.
“It seems like the movie is further along than thought,” Screen Rant said. “Given its rumored September-October filming start date, Holland’s Spider-Man 4 could be swinging into theaters by late 2025. Normally, MCU movies tend to go before cameras a year before they are supposed to release, and with Spider-Man 4 eyeing a late 2024 filming start, the movie could be ready for a release in 2025 if there are no unforeseen delays.”
Comic Book Resources notes that Peter Parker’s persona will fade into the background, and his Spider-Man persona will dominate his character in the new movie.
Besides Holland and Zendaya, there are no other actors rumored to appear at present.
Movieguide® reported on Holland’s conditions to return to his character last December:
“I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy,” he explained. “So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”
“If we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man,” he added. “I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I’ll only tell it if we can find the right one.”
