Steelers QB Takes Win, Sets Franchise Record ‘By Faith’

In just his second game for the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Russell Wilson already set records.

The Steelers beat the Jets in a 37-15 win Sunday night, and Wilson threw for the most yards by any starting quarterback in the Steelers franchise.

Per CBS Sports, “Wilson threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns on 16 of 29 passing. According to NBC Sports, Wilson broke the mark that was previously held by Earl Morral, who threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns during his Steelers debut that took place way back on September 29, 1957 (the Steelers beat Washington that day, 28-7, in case you were wondering).”

However, Wilson didn’t start the game very well. Steeler fans booed the quarterback due to a few missed passes and a lack of production.

But Wilson kept his composure and told his coach that things would turn around for him soon.

He was right, and “a Beanie Bishop Jr. interception turned into a late first-half touchdown [which] settled Wilson, and the offense marched up and down the field from there, scoring on its final five possessions of the game, including four TDs,” the NFL reported.

“Team W! Full of Gratitude! ‘By FAITH,'” he posted after the win.

“First of all, I really believe in being neutral,” Wilson said of the crowd. “Not being too high, not being too low…Coming into this game, we had a couple things early that we could’ve had. I felt like it was playoff baseball in the sense I started 0 for 2, but felt like I was gonna get hot. I kept telling coach, I’m gonna get hot here. And sure enough we did.”

Wilson believes he and his team are capable of even more.

“The reality is there’s so much more out there,” he emphasized. “That’s the good news. There’s so much more out there, and we’ll get better as we go. We’re gonna keep working. There’s a lot more football left, but to be where we are is a good place.”
