Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Grateful for Trials: ‘Honor and Joy’ to Withstand
By Movieguide® Contributor
Olympic gold medalist and multi-time World Champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shared how her faith helps her overcome obstacles.
“First Peter 1 talks about just the joy that we can have in our trials and tribulations because it’s an opportunity to show our genuineness in our faith,” McLaughlin said on the “Dream Check” podcast. “We’re not promised in this Christian life that we’re not gonna have trials and tribulations. That’s actually the one thing we are promised.”
James 1:2-4 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
McLaughlin-Levrone has done just that.
“It’s just a joy and an honor to be able to withstand those,” she said. “That’s an opportunity to show how genuine your faith is. When you push through those things regardless of how it may affect you, I know that in this I am proving to I’d that I truly do love him.”
“And how I stay submitted and obedient, and it’s going to be able to prove and show to the world that Christ is working in me,” she continued. “Because the normal man would quit, but for you that’s an opportunity with perseverance to withstand the trials that you have.”
On January 30, McLaughlin-Levrone will release her new book, “Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith.”
She recently shared on her social media, “Just one month until the release of my first book, Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith! ? I pray that the one who fears may look to the Lord, and find that He delights in those who delight in Him. ??✨
‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.’ Philippians 4:6 ?”

“SUPRISE!!!! I can’t believe it is finally here, after two years in the making, I am beyond excited to share this news with you guys!!!” McLaughlin-Levrone posted on Instagram.
The Olympian opened up about why she wrote the book and how she hopes it impacts readers.
“You know that feeling of being held back by your fears? Or the desire to be perfect and constantly failing? I do. I actually know those feelings all too well,” McLaughlin-Levrone wrote.
“I figured it was time to start writing all of this down, so I’ve poured my heart out into a book about my faith journey and my experience fighting anxiety and perfectionism,” she continued. “You’ll see how much my self-worth and identity have shifted in the process of finding that I can do nothing apart from God.”
“His overwhelming grace, love, and truth shattered my pursuit of perfection and people-pleasing,” the gold medalist added. “This is an intimate look into a side of my life that you haven’t seen before. Yes, I face hurdles off the track too! I pray that Far Beyond Gold will encourage you to conquer your fears, stand firm in your faith, and see just how much freedom is truly possible with Christ at the center of your life.”
