Olympian Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Reflects on God’s Character: ‘He is Truly Kind’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Multi-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recently reflected on God’s character and his ability to relate to our pain.
“He has experienced our pains. Our losses, our betrayals, our hardships, and our sufferings,” she began. “Having lived all these troubles and more, Jesus understands. He has grace for us, having stood against the same trials and more.”
She referenced Hebrews 4:14-16, which reads:
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
“Yet it doesn’t stop with all of the negative qualities of life,” she continued. “Though He can empathize with us on our grief, the beauty of His life is that faith replaces it with joy. He offers peace, healing, comfort, and hope. No matter the struggle, or the fight.”
“He is truly kind. Beyond loving, and abundantly faithful,” McLaughlin-Levrone concluded. “Submitting to Him is not a chore but a joy, for there’s no better remedy for the aches and pains of life. ❤️ He is enough.”
Many of McLaughlin-Levrone’s followers commented on the post with their thoughts.
“When I slow down and meditate, contemplate and apply the Word, and the truth of it all, to my heart & life, joy indeed fills my soul! Thank you for helping us to turn our focus on Jesus, the Word made flesh,” one follower wrote.
“Beautifully, beautifully said Sydney! ? Jesus is the one to turn to in our grief, our pain, our trauma, and our heartache. He is our Comforter, our Healer, and our Victory! He is the God of restoration. We can live with hope knowing that He does make beauty from ashes on this side of heaven and we can overcome anything because Jesus overcame it all! Now that is true hope,” another user commented.
The athlete is getting ready to compete in the Paris Olympics this summer.
“I just want to be better than I was in Tokyo. Improve upon myself. I don’t know what event I’ll possibly be doing, but just represent Team USA very well,” McLaughlin-Levrone said in an interview with NBC News.
“Paris is a dream come true,” she added. “The stores, the roads, the cafes, all of it, it’s a dream.”
Whatever happens in Paris, she’ll be trusting God. Earlier this year, she released her book “Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith.”
“…I’ve poured my heart out into a book about my faith journey and my experience fighting anxiety and perfectionism,” McLaughlin-Levrone said. “You’ll see how much my self-worth and identity have shifted in the process of finding that I can do nothing apart from God. His overwhelming grace, love, and truth shattered my pursuit of perfection and people-pleasing.”
