Tampa Bay WR Credits New Record to This: ‘Thank You, Lord’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is one of the most consistent wideouts in the NFL, and he credits his success to Jesus.
Evans secured his 11th straight season with over 1,000 receiving yards, which ties him with Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice.
How does Evans continue the streak? Through his Savior, Jesus Christ.
“I just thank God that He’s blessed me to be healthy and I have great people around me to help me accomplish this feat. Hopefully, I can keep extending it every year I play,” he told the Buccaneers media team.
Last week, Evans shared a picture on his social media page, which included Luke 12: 25-26: “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”
“Thank you, Lord, for everything,” he added.

Evans accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was in the seventh grade and was baptized shortly after that. As his faith has grown, the athlete has learned to trust God amid trials.
“A relationship with God doesn’t mean you will not go through tough times, it just means you lean on Him more,” he said on the “Faith on the Field” show. “[He] gets you through every tough time. You just gotta lean on Him. No matter what it is, He can get you through.”
Because of his faith, Evans has a desire and passion to help people, earning him a nomination for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
“To be nominated for this award amongst the best our league has to offer is an incredible honor,” Evans said. “There is so much more to being a professional athlete than what you do on the field, and I am humbled to be nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year. I am so grateful to have this platform that allows me to positively impact those in need and to continue the important work we are doing through our foundation.”
