Tauren Wells Urges Loving Others Like God: ‘Draws People Into His Love’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian singer-songwriter Tauren Wells is encouraging us to “bypass [our] bias” toward people who are different from us.
“It is us for them,” Wells said in a recent Instagram video. “We have to shape our affections around the affections of God, and God holds great affection for people. He is not against us. He is for us. He is not against the world. He is for the world.”
He continued, “Yes, there is sin that grieves His heart, but it is His kindness that draws people from their sin into repentance, and so it will not be opposition that draws people who are different from us into the love of God. It will be affection that is mirrored from the image of God that draws people into His love.”
Wells explained that Jesus was “constantly working” to get those around him to “to love people outside of themselves…[and] to face the bias, the racism and the religiosity in themselves.”
“Jesus was constantly trying to get them to bypass their bias, and He is still trying to get us today to bypass our bias,” he concluded.
Wells delivered this sermon at the Church of Whitestone, the church he launched with his wife, Lorna, earlier this year.
“We’re gonna be the lead pastors, [and] we’re gonna have an amazing team,” Wells told Christian Headlines ahead of the church’s opening. “Everything God does best, He does through teams. And so we’re putting together a great team.”
When asked how he would balance his ministry with his career as an artist, Wells replied, “It’s just another lane on the highway. I feel like the music has been the tip of the spear or the arrowhead. And I feel like the church is going to be the balance—the feather on the back—that we’re going to continue to move throughout the world to change people’s lives.”
The Church of Whitestone’s website elaborates on its mission.
“At Whitestone, we believe in a loving God who knows your true essence and cherishes you deeply. This divine insight into your identity is what we refer to as your ‘white stone,’” it reads. “Our mission is to guide you towards unveiling this God-authored identity, fostering a whole-hearted relationship with Jesus, and emboldening you to embrace your true self.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the Church of Whitestone:
Christian musician Tauren Wells and wife Lorna are celebrating the 10-year culmination of their dream to establish their own church.
The church’s website lists its vision statement as “Discovering your God-authored identity through whole-hearted relationship with Jesus” and encourages people to find the “part of ourselves that we haven’t even met yet.”
The couple also spoke about their excitement for the Church of Whitestone in an Instagram post, writing, “Through the planting of a vibrant, life-giving, community of faith, Church of Whitestone, we are assuming our calling as Lead Pastors of the church that God placed in our heart more than 10 years ago. The vision is clear, ‘helping people discover their God-authored identity through whole hearted relationship with Jesus,’ and the time is now.”
