TCU’s Kendre Miller: A ‘Follower of Christ’ On and Off the Field

TCU’s powerhouse player, breakout junior running back, Kendre Miller, who helped lead the university’s football team from champing at the bit to championship run this season, clearly connects with Christ.

As Kevin Mercer, in a January 5 article for Sports Spectrum, points out: “A big reason for the Horned Frogs’ unexpected success in what many thought would be a rebuilding year has been their rushing attack, led by star junior running back Kendre Miller.”

Mercer goes on to provide the hard-earned stats which led to Miller’s team leadership by example: “Miller broke out in a big way as the starter in 2022, amassing 1,399 yards on 224 attempts (good for 6.2 yards per carry) and 17 touchdowns. His rushing yards were the third most in the Big 12 and ranked 15th in the entire country

It’s not yet clear if Miller will play in the National Championship on Jan. 9, against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Unlike his game readiness status at the moment, Miller’s spiritual status is not at all in doubt. Near the close of his article, Mercer remarks:

The 20-year-old from Mount Enterprise, Texas, will do everything he can to be prepared to play against the Bulldogs and lead his team as he has all season. And throughout TCU’s run to the title game, amid the increased attention Miller has gotten for his play, he’s remained unashamed about sharing his faith on his social media accounts. He describes himself as a “Follower of Christ” in his Twitter bio and has been known to post quotes from the Bible and express his thanks to God on Instagram.

Such posts include quoting scriptures like “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. LORD, save us, grant us success. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD.” Psalm 118:24, and “I can do all things through christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13.”

Joining the list of legendary football players seems likely to be in Miller’s future; but joining the list of Christian football players seems certain. A mix of the always outspoken Tim Tebow and Aaron Rodgers, who has characterized his Christian faith by quoting the teaching of Francis of Assisi to “Preach the Gospel at all times; if necessary, use words”, Miller joins a group of highly talented athletes, all of whom, in different ways, proudly proclaim their eternal status as a “Follower of Christ.”
