Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron is projected to be a first-round pick at this year’s NFL draft, but regardless of his pick, the athlete knows “God has everything planned.”
After Texas’s win over Arizona State in the College Football Playoffs, Barron talked about trusting in God’s timing, something he’s reminding himself of while waiting for the draft.
“I told all the guys, like, last year and the years before previously, I wanted things done on my time,” he told the media in a video posted on the Sports Spectrum Instagram page. “But it doesn’t work like that. God has everything planned. It’s already written. And all you have to do is just keep going with the process and just trusting the process and then allowing everybody to be a plus in your life and trusting everybody. So just literally relying on God.”
Texas lost in the semifinals against Ohio State, who would eventually win the National Championship. After the game, Barron used his media time as an opportunity to share his faith.
“At the end of the day, I just want everyone to know [you don’t always] come out on top, but we won,” Barron said. “We truly know who our leader is, and that’s God and Jesus Christ. Ultimately, just having the ability to use the gift that He gave us to share to the world, I mean, it’s been amazing.”

Barron secured the Thorpe Award last season, which is presented to the top defensive back in the nation. According to Pro Football Focus, Barron led the SEC with five interceptions and had the lowest passer rating in college football.
Barron also secured an Associated Press first-team All-American and All-SEC first-team selection in his final year with the Longhorns.
While he didn’t land a national title before he declared for the NFL Draft, he’s still using his platform to tell football fans about God.
