Former BACHELOR star Sean Lowe recalled how his dog Moose attacked him and explained why he is thankful the attack happened the way it did.

Lowe shared the story on Instagram, explaining how his dog, Moose, began to attack him after the smoke alarms began to blare in the house. He had been barbecuing with some friends when smoke wafted in through open windows, causing the alarm to go off. When Lowe went in the house to get some of the smoke out, Moose began to bite him.

“Moose comes up and kind of bites at me and nips my finger really aggressively, which is something that he does not do. So, you know, I kind of gave him a ‘No Moose.’ Again, the siren’s just blaring and then he goes and starts to bite my feet…” Lowe said. “He was biting my feet so hard he actually put holes in my shoes, and it was hurting my feet.”

“So at this point, again, there’s so much chaos going on with the alarm going off, so I give him a very stern, like, ‘Moose, no. No.’ And it was right about that moment where he shows his teeth at me and just attacks me,” he continued. “And I don’t mean like bite and run off like a lot of dogs do when they’re scared or defensive, I mean attacks me. And I feel him kind of ripping into the flesh of my arm.”

What ensued was a long struggle as Lowe worked to get the dog off of him as Moose continued to bite into his arm. Eventually he was able to get Moose into the backyard before assessing just how much damage had actually been done.

“My friends who were here shut the door behind me, and I look down at my arm…that was cut so deep and I could see blood squirting, probably a couple feet, squirting. And so, my first thought is, I think that dog may have nicked an artery…” Lowe recalled. “And, I thank God that my friends were there because they were able to rush me to the ER.”

After getting stitched up, Lowe returned home, and the next morning, his parents came over the take the kids for a few days to allow Lowe and his wife to rest and recover from the attack. As they are loading the kids into the car, however, Moose came running out the front door straight at Lowe.

“And so there’s a split second where I’m looking at him and I’m just praying, please let it be the friendly Moose that I know,” Lowe said. “And, he made a beeline right at me and just lunged and started attacking me again.”

Though Moose tore into his arm again, Lowe was able to subdue him until additional help could arrive. However, the entire string of events has been very traumatic both on Lowe and his family.

“If you guys want to say a prayer for my beautiful wife, I know it’s taken a toll on her,” Lowe said towards the end of the story.

Lowe and his wife Catherine Giudici adopted Moose just three months ago.

“It wasn’t Moose’s fault. I think it’s clear he experienced a lot of trauma before we got him and had something neurologically wrong where just a switch flipped, and he turned into an absolute killer, which was so weird,” Lowe added. “He really didn’t show any signs, and he was great around my kids. He was great in the house. He was just an affectionate, loving boxer.”

However, due to the attacks, Lowe said he can’t keep Moose in the same house as his family. They’ve been working with animal control and a no-kill shelter to figure out the best option for the dog.

As Lowe and his family continue to recover from this attack and also grieve the loss of the dog they so loved, please keep them in your prayers. Lowe is a strong Christian himself and is likely turning to the Lord for solace during this time. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Despite all that has happened, Lowe still cares for Moose and is extremely sad that they have to get rid of him for the safety of his family.
